Advent is a very special time of waiting. We wait for the birth of Jesus, who came to show us God the Father’s love for every living thing on earth.

We wait for him to be born again in our hearts, our classrooms, our homes and in our parishes.

During Advent in school we have prepared in many different ways for the birth of Jesus.

In whole school Liturgical Prayer, we have thought about how Advent is a time to get ready and also a time to be ready for when Jesus will come again. We have thought about how we prepare our hearts by following Jesus’ teaching, reaching out and helping others and praying to Jesus.

Liturgical Prayer in our Classes

The children join in prayer in their classes each day.

Our key stage 2 children plan and lead class prayer time.

Thank you to Deacon Pat and Deacon John who joined a different key stage 2 class each week for a special advent prayer service.

ADVENT SERVICE

Our Year 6 children joined with children from other Catholic Schools from across Wirral to mark the start of Advent with a beautiful advent service. We joined together in prayer and music.

ADVENT PRAYER SPACES

In one of our Advent Prayer Spaces they thought about what it means to be ready for Jesus and added a mirror to the reflected light to remind themselves to reflect Jesus’ light in their lives.

Travelling Nativities

Some of our Year 5 children helped sort and prepare our travelling nativity sets. These are taken home by our EYFS and KS1 children each night to share with their families at home.

ADVENT RETREAT

Mrs McNulty led the whole school in a special Advent Retreat. During the day children worked in mixed age groups. They took part in a variety of advent themed activities focusing on the meaning of Advent, the Advent wreath, the Annunciation and how we can welcome Jesus into our own lives as Mary did.
