Worship (‘Prayer’ and ‘Liturgy’) in a Catholic school is concerned with giving glory, honour, praise and thanks to God. It is our loving response, in word and action, to God’s invitation to enter into friendship, made possible through Jesus, God’s Son, and the witness of the Holy Spirit. It is an integral part of the life of the Catholic school, putting Christ at the centre of education, helping to create and sustain the Catholic ethos, making it tangible.

Gather, Listen, Respond, Go Forth
At St Michael and All Angels, we always strive to provide quality experiences of prayer and liturgy that support pupils’ spiritual development. These communal acts of prayer and the liturgical celebrations of the Church form part of everyday life in our school. Every child is given the opportunity to pray by giving praise and thanks to God using traditional prayers of the Catholic Church and many other sources of prayer that enable this to take place. We encourage the children to nurture a relationship with God through words, symbols, song, gestures and silence.

Each week, the children gather in Key Stages for Collective Worship led by a teacher.
Class Assemblies are wonderful celebrations. We invite our families to attend and share this celebration with us.
In individual classes, children also plan and lead Collective Worship.
Assembly is an important part of our school day when we meet together as a community. It is a time when it is possible to share the Gospel values, to place emphasis on the development of values and attitudes towards each other and the world around us.
On Monday, we gather for whole school assembly led by the Headteacher. We think about the Gospel read in Church on Sunday alongside our ‘St Michael’s Values’.
